{"id":11098,"date":"2016-03-27T06:00:49","date_gmt":"2016-03-27T10:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dougbittinger.com\/thoughts\/?p=11098"},"modified":"2025-04-21T01:56:38","modified_gmt":"2025-04-21T05:56:38","slug":"unity-in-diversity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pineymountainfoster.org\/thoughts\/unity-in-diversity\/","title":{"rendered":"Unity in Diversity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-11099\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160607090805\/http:\/\/dougbittinger.com\/thoughts\/wp-content\/uploads\/Diversity_Hands-300x247.jpg\" alt=\"Diversity\" width=\"300\" height=\"247\" \/>Some churches have several dominant personalities in leadership positions \u2013 even if they are not officially leaders.\u00a0 Sometimes diversity causes frictions between these people and others that erupts into sparks of distention.\u00a0\u00a0 I&#8217;ve seen it happen many times in the various churches I&#8217;ve been a part of.\u00a0 Sometimes these frictions are over what is most important in a church or how it is to operate.\u00a0 In most cases those butting heads are following their own hearts and truly believe in what they propose as being most important and what everyone should focus on.<\/p>\n<p>What is often overlooked is that our diversity is often our greatest strength.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1%20Corinthians+12&amp;version=NKJV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1 Corinthians 12<\/a> puts it this way:<!--more--><br \/>\n\u201c<em><sup>4<\/sup> There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. <sup>5<\/sup> There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. <sup>6<\/sup> And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. <sup>7<\/sup> But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: <sup>8<\/sup> for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, <sup>9<\/sup> to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, <sup>10<\/sup> to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. <sup>11<\/sup> But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> <sup>12<\/sup> For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ.<\/em>\u201d (NKJV).<\/p>\n<p>How the Spirit works through each member will be different, but it is the same Spirit.<\/p>\n<p>This chapter goes on to compare the body of Christ to a human body: a diversity of parts, each with a specific function, and it asks, \u201c<em><sup>17<\/sup>\u00a0If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing?
