{"id":11523,"date":"2016-07-12T06:42:45","date_gmt":"2016-07-12T10:42:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dougbittinger.com\/thoughts\/?p=11523"},"modified":"2025-04-21T01:56:38","modified_gmt":"2025-04-21T05:56:38","slug":"little-lights-dark","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pineymountainfoster.org\/thoughts\/little-lights-dark\/","title":{"rendered":"Little Lights in the Dark"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/PineyMountainFoster.org\/thoughts\/wp-content\/uploads\/Network-Expander-Status-Lights-night.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-11524\" src=\"https:\/\/PineyMountainFoster.org\/thoughts\/wp-content\/uploads\/Network-Expander-Status-Lights-night-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"little lights in the dark\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a>Do you think this thing has enough lights?\u00a0 While almost unnoticable in the day, it really stands out in the dark.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s our network expander.\u00a0 Its purpose is to bridge the gap between our network router (which is over in my workshop because that&#8217;s where the internet connection is) and the computers we use in our home.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a device about the size of a deck of cards and plugs into a wall outlet for power.<\/p>\n<p>Each light means something.\u00a0 But remembering what means digging out the manual and reviewing the chart.\u00a0 I remember that the left side reports on connection with the router over in the work shop and the right side reports on the connection with the computers connected via WiFi.\u00a0 There is an Ethernet port too, that\u2019s connected to our phone system via a cable.\u00a0 Green lights are good, so all was well when I took this.\u00a0 Each light can also turn yellow or red to indicate less than optimal (or horrible) connection status.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve seen each of those at times.<\/p>\n<p>Cochise likes to sleep in the den.\u00a0 I think it\u2019s because these lights remind him of a Christmas tree.\u00a0 Especially when things aren&#8217;t connecting so well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Do you think this thing has enough lights?&nbsp; While almost unnoticable in the day, it really stands out in the dark.
