sort of a &#8220;Let&#8217;s go over yonder&#8221;sort of thing.\u00a0 Pick a direction, but don&#8217;t try to schedule ports of call and dates.\u00a0 They won&#8217;t be there.\u00a0 Keep the spyglass at hand to help see what lies ahead and keep to a general compass course, but be equally as prepared for storms as you are for smooth sailing.\u00a0 Provision where you can.\u00a0 Enjoy what ports of call offer.\u00a0 Be vigilant for pirates.\u00a0 But don&#8217;t get hung up on timing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pineymountainfoster.org\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-20423 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/pineymountainfoster.org\/thoughts\/wp-content\/uploads\/Kennel-190425i-w-PMFC-text-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pineymountainfoster.org\/thoughts\/wp-content\/uploads\/Kennel-190425i-w-PMFC-text-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pineymountainfoster.org\/thoughts\/wp-content\/uploads\/Kennel-190425i-w-PMFC-text-600x338.jpg 600w, https:\/\/pineymountainfoster.org\/thoughts\/wp-content\/uploads\/Kennel-190425i-w-PMFC-text-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/pineymountainfoster.org\/thoughts\/wp-content\/uploads\/Kennel-190425i-w-PMFC-text-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/pineymountainfoster.org\/thoughts\/wp-content\/uploads\/Kennel-190425i-w-PMFC-text-1200x675.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/pineymountainfoster.org\/thoughts\/wp-content\/uploads\/Kennel-190425i-w-PMFC-text-scaled.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 85vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>For the past seven years Marie and I have been involved in Canine Rescue.\u00a0 Each year that effort has grown in size and complexity.\u00a0 This year we built a new kennel building and took our mom-n-pop operation to a new level as a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity.\u00a0 This was not easy.\u00a0 It may be easy if you hire a lawyer who is familiar with the ins and outs of the process, but we couldn&#8217;t do that, that&#8217;s expensive.\u00a0 I spent months researching the process, then taking it step by step, patiently and in the order they must be taken.\u00a0 And in October of 2019 we were awarded 501(c)(3) Public Charity status by the IRS.\u00a0 Not only that, but we also achieved tax free status with the state.\u00a0 Not all non-profits do.\u00a0 This allows us to buy supplies for <a href=\"https:\/\/PineyMountainFoster.org\">Piney Mountain Foster Care<\/a> without paying sales taxes.\u00a0 In our location, that means saving almost 10% on our costs, right there.<\/p>\n<p>As we go into the new year my biggest challenge is going to be remembering that I am no longer the commander of this ship.\u00a0 I&#8217;m more of an engineer, tinkering away to keep the machinery working smoothly.\u00a0 At the helm is a Board of Directors &#8211;good people all, people I know and trust.\u00a0 But it is no longer just Marie and me bare boating it around the sea of life.<\/p>\n<p>Together we have pointed the bow in a particular direction and together we will go, &#8220;over yonder&#8221;,\u00a0 wherever that may end up being.\u00a0 That is up to God: for He determines the wind and waves and has arranged the islands and continents that we will discover on our journey.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pineymountainfoster.org\/thoughts\/wp-content\/uploads\/Panerai_Yacht_Classic_Newport7-sailboat-at-sea-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-20438\" src=\"https:\/\/pineymountainfoster.org\/thoughts\/wp-content\/uploads\/Panerai_Yacht_Classic_Newport7-sailboat-at-sea-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pineymountainfoster.org\/thoughts\/wp-content\/uploads\/Panerai_Yacht_Classic_Newport7-sailboat-at-sea-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pineymountainfoster.org\/thoughts\/wp-content\/uploads\/Panerai_Yacht_Classic_Newport7-sailboat-at-sea-600x450.jpg 600w, https:\/\/pineymountainfoster.org\/thoughts\/wp-content\/uploads\/Panerai_Yacht_Classic_Newport7-sailboat-at-sea-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/pineymountainfoster.org\/thoughts\/wp-content\/uploads\/Panerai_Yacht_Classic_Newport7-sailboat-at-sea-scaled.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 85vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>I will, as a rule, not be writing about Piney Mountain Foster Care here on Random Thoughts.\u00a0 PMFC has its own web site and its own mailing list.\u00a0 If you are interested in that, please pop <a href=\"https:\/\/pineymountainfoster.org\">over there<\/a> to look around and sign up for the emails.\u00a0 Thank you and may you enjoy clear sailing in the year ahead.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is that time of year when folks tend to wax reflective: looking back over the past year and forming lists of accomplishments (or failures, depending on your mental set) reviewing lists of top movies, songs, memes, and popular people.
