\"the<\/a>The Green Slime is a campy 1968 Sci-Fi flick written by <\/b>Ivan Reiner<\/a> (story), Bill Finger<\/a>, Tom Rowe<\/a> and Charles Sinclair<\/a> \u00a0(screenplay), directed by Kinji Fukasaku<\/a>, and starring <\/b>Robert Horton<\/a>, Luciana Paluzzi<\/a>, and Richard Jaeckel<\/a> (See full cast and crew<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Green Slime: The Premise<\/h1>\n

A large asteroid threatens collision with the Earth.\u00a0 Commander Jack Rankin is sent up from earth to an orbital platform to take command of a spacecraft and crew who will attempt to destroy the asteroid with nuclear charges.\u00a0 For some inexplicable reason, Rankin is also taking command of the orbital platform, currently under the command of Cmdr. Vince Elliot.\u00a0 Of course these men have a history.\u00a0 Part of that history is Dr. Liza Benson, who serves aboard the platform with Commander Elliot.<\/p>\n

The ball of space rock threatening Earth is infested by globs of green goo that interfere with the mission by disabling equipment.\u00a0 The spaceship must attempt to outrun the nuclear blast by accelerating beyond its designed capacity.\u00a0 The mission to the asteroid is successful in blowing up the asteroid, the ship and crew survive, but a miniscule glob of the green goo hitches a ride along in a fold of a crew member\u2019s space suit.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Rather than killing the slime bit, the space station\u2019s decontamination process spurs its growth and it transforms into a tentacled monster that feeds on all forms of energy and spews electricity.\u00a0 The crew quickly learns that the monster\u2019s spilled blood replicates into more monsters and the station is overrun.<\/p>\n

Crew members are dying, an explosion damages the station, the two Commanders vie for control, and Dr. Liza isn\u2019t sure who she really loves.<\/p>\n

The Good, the Bad, and the Humorous<\/h1>\n

The story line is pretty good.\u00a0 The Japanese model making is good as well.\u00a0 The acting is stiff and stereotypical.\u00a0 Some of the sets are a bit too obviously cardboard and plywood.\u00a0 The monsters are people in rubber suits.\u00a0 But this is all absolutely expected of B-grade sci-fi: it adds to the charm and the humor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
