{"id":6753,"date":"2014-03-14T01:00:17","date_gmt":"2014-03-14T05:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/allandouglas.dougbittinger.com\/blog\/?p=6753"},"modified":"2025-04-21T01:56:40","modified_gmt":"2025-04-21T05:56:40","slug":"alien-trespass","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pineymountainfoster.org\/thoughts\/alien-trespass\/","title":{"rendered":"Alien Trespass"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/PineyMountainFoster.org\/thoughts\/wp-content\/uploads\/Cover-Art_Alien-Trespass.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6754\" style=\"border: 0px none;\" src=\"http:\/\/PineyMountainFoster.org\/thoughts\/wp-content\/uploads\/Cover-Art_Alien-Trespass.jpg\" alt=\"alien trespass, movie review\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>As part of our Simple Life formula, Marie and I have a few standing traditions that help us appreciate one another and enjoy life.\u00a0 One such is Schlocky Sci-Fi Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Every Friday evening Marie fixes Chinese food and we curl up together on the sofa with our tray tables to eat the Chinese food and watch an old B grade (we prefer the term \u2018Classic\u201d ) science fiction movie.\u00a0\u00a0 Movies from the 1950\u2019s and 1960\u2019s and in black and white are preferred.\u00a0 Among our all-time favorites are such classics as The Day the Earth Stood Still, Destination Moon and Rocketship XM but we have a large collection of movies on DVD and VHS, the majority of them Sci-Fi.\u00a0 Another \u201cclassic\u201d joined the file last night.\u00a0 (No spoilers here)<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Alien Trespass, staring Eric McCormack, Jenni Baird, Dan Hauria and Robert Patrick is a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the golden age of sci-fi movies.\u00a0 Released in 2009, but set in 1957 it is done in the style of the science fiction classics; a hard-boiled, ex-military police chief, the egg-head scientist, a plucky waitress, and a trio of rebellious teens form the core of the movie cast.<\/p>\n<p>The show begins with a news reel documenting a feud that broke out between the star of Alien Trespass and its producer, in the end the film; R.W. Goodwin\u2019s masterpiece, was destroyed; forever denying the world the pleasure of seeing his crowning achievement.\u00a0 When a portion of the Goodwin studios were being torn down to make room for an apartment complex, an underground vault was located in which was found a metal film case containing one, pristine copy of Alien Trespass.\u00a0 This part is all rather comical.<\/p>\n<p>The basic premise of the movie: an alien spacecraft crash-lands on Earth after suffering mechanical trouble.\u00a0 Aboard are two aliens: one a bloodthirsty monster bent on consuming all organic life, the other a keeper who must recapture it before it begins breeding and decimates the population of the sleepy small town near the crash site (and eventually, the whole planet).\u00a0 To accomplish its mission, the keeper needs help from the town folk.<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\"><iframe style=\"width: 120px; height: 240px;\" src=\"http:\/\/ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/widgets\/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&amp;Operation=GetAdHtml&amp;ID=OneJS&amp;OneJS=1&amp;source=ss&amp;ref=ss_til&amp;ad_type=product_link&amp;tracking_id=alladougdesi-20&amp;marketplace=amazon&amp;region=US&amp;placement=B0029W2V9U&amp;asins=B0029W2V9U&amp;show_border=true&amp;link_opens_in_new_window=true&amp;MarketPlace=US\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><br \/>\n<\/iframe><\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<td>Just one element of the movie is a love triangle between the alien keeper, the egg-head professor, his overly sensual wife and the plucky waitress.\u00a0 But wait, you say, that\u2019s four.\u00a0 How can you have a triangle with four elements?\u00a0 Ahhh\u2026 that\u2019s the catch.\u00a0 And I\u2019d spoil it if I told.<\/p>\n<p>While the movie is deliberately cast with the wooden, stereotype roles I mentioned, the acting is atypically good, the story is strong and the movie is well done, even the requisite rubber suit monster with one huge eye and tentacles is laughably realistic.This was one of the best \u2018Schlocky\u201d sci-fi movies we\u2019ve seen in a long time.\u00a0 It is rated PG for Sci-Fi action and brief historical smoking (grin) so it is suitable for viewing by the whole family.\u00a0 This one is just good clean fun with a surprisingly good story.\u00a0 It even has a decent ending.\u00a0 We highly recommend it.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As part of our Simple Life formula, Marie and I have a few standing traditions that help us appreciate one another and enjoy life.&nbsp; One such is Schlocky Sci-Fi Friday.
