{"id":7051,"date":"2014-06-04T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-06-04T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/allandouglas.dougbittinger.com\/blog\/?p=7051"},"modified":"2025-04-21T01:56:39","modified_gmt":"2025-04-21T05:56:39","slug":"way-back-whensday-brandy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pineymountainfoster.org\/thoughts\/way-back-whensday-brandy\/","title":{"rendered":"Way Back Whensday: Brandy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My brother, sister-in-law and their two little girls were visiting last week.\u00a0 They stayed at Mom&#8217;s house, which is on our property, about 60 feet down hill from our house.\u00a0 One of the things my 4 year old niece liked was visiting with our dogs.\u00a0 I took one down to mom&#8217;s house each evening.\u00a0 Erin liked giving them treats and petting them.\u00a0 She asked that Cochise make an encore visit on her last day, so she may have liked him best this year.\u00a0 Last year she and Blondie toured our house together during their visit.<\/p>\n<p>We talked dogs.\u00a0 I reminisced about one of my favorite dogs from my youth: Brandy.<\/p>\n<p>Brandy was a Welsh Corgie.\u00a0 Among his more outstanding features was that he liked to go sailing with me.\u00a0 He even helped sail the boat.\u00a0 Or at least bring it back to dock.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/PineyMountainFoster.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Brandy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-7052\" src=\"http:\/\/PineyMountainFoster.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Brandy.jpg\" alt=\"Brandy the sailor dog\" width=\"300\" height=\"182\" \/><\/a>Brandy would stand on the foredeck with a pre-prepared rope in his mouth.\u00a0 As we approached the dock I&#8217;d give him the word, he&#8217;d leap over to the dock, run around a cleat and jump back into the cockpit with me.\u00a0 I&#8217;d take the rope and wrap it around a cleat on the boat and arrest or forward motion so we&#8217;d swing lightly along side the pier.\u00a0 It was a trick that tended to leave spectators gape-jawed&#8230; once we got it down pat.\u00a0 There were many embarrassing moments during the training.<\/p>\n<p>Other peculiar traits were that he greatly disliked anyone in any kind of uniform: mail man, meter reader, policeman, military, any uniform.\u00a0 I adopted him from a shelter, so I didn&#8217;t know his background.<\/p>\n<p>Also, hot air balloons caused him to leap into the air and bark incessantly.\u00a0 We lived in Bloomington\/Normal IL at the time and hot air balloon races and exhibitions were not uncommon.\u00a0 Airplanes, helicopters, birds: no problem.\u00a0 Balloon: get ready for insanity.<\/p>\n<p>Otherwise he was a pretty sedate, affectionate little fellow and I liked him a lot.\u00a0 The feeling seemed to be mutual.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My brother, sister-in-law and their two little girls were visiting last week.&nbsp;
